This business was started as a part-time home based business September 7, 2000. o   Since 2010, the business has evolved into a full service accounting firm that processes thousands of tax returns, consults numerous entrepreneurs to establish business formation, and serves as Accountant to many organizations. In 2011 Five Star expanded and opened a Branch Office in OPKS. Marquita is a certified First Step Fund Instructor/Coach. In 2005, her company was selected to participate in the POWER program operated by Greater Kansas City Chamber. In 2006, she was honored by Kansas Black Chamber of Commerce for her involvement and commitment to entrepreneurship development. In 2007, she was nominated for Top 25 small business by Small Business Monthly and Top 100 Small Business by Greater Kansas City Chamber. In 2010 she was selected by KC Business Magazine as one of Kansas City Rising Stars. In 2011 she was selected by the Kansas City Business Magazine as one of KCMO’s 2011 Influential Women. Marquita has produced 2 audio CDs, one of which is titled “10 Things You Must Know Before Starting Your Business”. Additionally, she has authored three books, the first being Faithpreneur.

BACKGROUND

Marquita was a Tax Accountant for Black & Veatch in Overland Park KS for several years. She later was a Senior Accountant for Commerce Bank. She exited the workforce from her position as Faculty Care Liaison Accountant with a local non-profit education organization. In addition, several companies approached Marquita and asked her to Independent Contract with them to handle financial accounting affairs. Marquita holds an MBA from Keller Graduate School of Management. She is currently pursuing CPA designation.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Marquita’s community involvement is extensive. She serves as board member of National Pearl Society and Running Back Giving Back (Kimble Anders Foundation). She serves as advisory board member to several organizations. She has partnered with community colleges, trade schools and business schools to educate students on “The Business Side of Business”.


Marquita is married and the proud mother of four children.
